Outdoor Mass COVID-19 FAQs
From the SACRAMENTS AND LITURGICAL PROTOCOLS, Issued by the Archdiocese of Agana. Updated May 6, 2020 at 12:40 PM
Does the Priest (concelebrant/deacon) wear a mask and gloves for Mass?
No.
How are the faithful to situate their vehicles?
Cars ideally should be parked a car space away from each other. If parishes do not have big parking lots, they could celebrate liturgies in other appropriate open spaces.
What about offertory and taking up a collection?
Offertory collection is to be made at the end of Mass. The faithful may place their offertory donation in a basket as they exit the parking lot/premises. This basket may be fixed to a table or other device such as a pole.
Presentation of gifts (bread, wine, collection) is to be suspended.
What about concelebrants, deacons, servers and other lay ministers?
At all times concelebrants, deacons, servers and other lay ministers are to remain 6 ft away from the presider and each other.
At those moments when the deacons or servers are assisting the priest, they are brief enough to allow for closer than 6ft distance.
Lavabo is to be done without the help of servers or deacons. Place on a small table near the altar for the priest to do on his own.
The priest could place the missal on a stand at the chair or even on the altar when he recites the presidential prayers, rather than having a server hold the book.
Maintain proper distance in the sacristy and in procession.
Choirs are to be kept to a minimum functional size as determined by the pastor. Choir members not of the same household must be 6ft feet apart from each other. Choirs ideally should be more than 6 feet away from altar, the presider, deacon and other lay ministers.
How is Communion to be distributed?
Communion is to be distributed by the priest, deacon, etc. with masks but without gloves on.
If Communion is received by hand, it should be done without gloves on.
If concelebrants or deacons are present, each should have his own chalice.
